What do the symbols on my mini split remote mean? ›

The remote will show whether the unit is in Cool, Heat, Fan, or Dry/Dehumidify mode by displaying a symbol (icon) at the top of the remote display. Cool Mode: Snowflake symbol. Heat Mode: Sun symbol. Fan Mode: Fan symbol (circle with fan blades inside it) Dry/Dehumidification: Rain Drop symbol.

Inspect the sensors on both the air conditioner and the remote control. If there is dirt or grime on the sensors, dirt may prevent the remote control signal from receiving it. Clean the sensors with a damp cloth. Moisture is another common reason of remote control damage.

A mini split can be left running 24/7 because the systems are designed specifically for non-stop use. In fact, keeping your mini split system running actually makes it more energy efficient and increases its ability to regulate temperatures with its internal temperature settings.

Most units will have a snow flake or ice symbol for the COOL mode. This mode is used to cool the room and would typically be used during summer. The sun symbol represents HEAT mode. This is the opposite of the cool mode and is used to heat the room, usually during the cooler winter months.
