Why This Waffle Recipe Is The Best
This homemade waffle recipe is THE BEST homemade waffle recipe you will ever have! Trust me! I have been making this Belgian waffle recipe for over 16 years, and anyone who has ever tried it confirms that it is indeed the best.
I promise you’ll never use store-bought waffle mix again when you see how easy it is to whip up a batch of these fluffy waffles from scratch!
One of my favorite meals is breakfast; this waffle recipe is at the top of the list! It’s sweet, but not too sweet, crispy on the outside, and perfectly fluffy on the inside. Want to know the secret to the amazing taste? Butter. YEP! Good ol’ fashioned butter gives it a rich, buttery taste that can’t be beat! Don’t forget the REAL maple syrup to top it off! OH, and bacon and fresh fruit on the side.

What You Need To Make This Recipe
This recipe is easy to make and uses everyday ingredients you most likely already have on hand in your pantry:
- flour – regular flour is best for this recipe
- melted butter – trust me. Melted butter gives this waffle recipe the most amazing taste and texture.
- baking powder – to make your waffles nice and fluffy.
- eggs – I like to use large, good-quality eggs.
- sugar – Don’t leave this out.
- vanilla – Madagascar vanilla gives you the best flavor
How To Make The Easiest Fluffy Waffles
- Preheat your waffle iron and spray with cooking spray or rub a little melted butter on.
- Whisk together the dry ingredients – flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs with a mixer until light and fluffy and pale in color.
- Add the vanilla to the egg mixture.
- Mix the egg mixture into the dry mixture.
- Add the butter and milk into the mixture- blending until just smooth.
- Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes before adding to the waffle iron.
- Pour onto hot iron and cook until golden brown.
- Serve topped with pure maple syrup and butter or your favorite fruit and whipped cream.
Pro Tips for Making This Recipe
- Whisk those eggs up nice and fluffy. You might not think it makes a difference, but it does! Adding air to the eggs gives your waffles a nice, light and fluffy texture.
- I promise you that the taste and texture you get from using actual butter are AMAZING. This is not the time to substitute and use “healthier” options. TRUST ME.
- When mixing your batter, do so gently. The batter will have lumps in it. That’s normal! Just mix until the ingredients are well combined and stop.
- Allow your batter to rest for about 5 minutes before making your first waffle. This allows all the ingredients to mix and do their thing. It’s the difference between light and fluffy waffles and dense waffles with a runny batter.
- Cook your waffle until it stops steaming. DO NOT PEEK. You will tear your waffle apart and it won’t cook correctly. Just put the batter in, (usually 1/4 cup – check your waffle maker instructions) close the lid, and wait.
- If you want the crispiest waffles, eat them right away. If you won’t be, a good tip is to preheat your oven to 200 degrees and add the waffles right on the wrack to keep warm. Do not add them to a baking sheet so that the bottom doesn’t get soft.
- To keep waffles warm while you’re whipping up more for your family, preheat your oven to the “warm” setting or lowest setting available.
- Place the waffles right on the rack when you take them out of your waffle iron. The waffles will stay crispy and warm until you’re ready to enjoy!

How thick should waffle batter be?
Leaving the lumps in will give you a fluffier and more tenderwafflein the long run. A good mixture will have the consistency of pancakebatteror honey—not sothickand clumpy that it’s clinging to your whisk or so runny that it’s essentially water.
Can you use a pancake recipe for waffles?
Wafflesare made of a richer batter thanpancakes, with an additional egg and oil. In fact, mostpancakemixes offer directions for creatingwafflesout of themix if you decide to go that route!
How do you keep waffles crispy?
If you don’t have a warm setting, set it to 200°F. Place a cooling rack on top of a cookie sheet and put it into the oven. By placing the rack on top of the sheet rather than placing the waffles directly on the sheet, you are allowing the hot air to circulate right around the waffle to keep it crisp.
Can You Freeze Waffles?
YES! You can freeze waffles in ziplock freezer bags and pull them out as needed throughout the week. All you need to do to reheat waffles is to pop them in the oven, microwave or even the toaster! This is the perfect make-ahead homemade waffle recipe from scratch
